What is it?
Thumb's Up provides more than Inspector Gadget these days!! And this is another!
Personally, I've seen these in the gadget shops before but have never tried them out. Now, reading the instructions, this is NOT bluetooth compatible, OR NFC compatible.. So I was thinking.. 'How the hell does this work??' Instructions say, all your need to do is put your smartphone on the speaker and make sure the phones speakers are up the correct end.
What I thought?
Forget about the above instructions for a minute, as being a typical bloke I got out the speaker, put my phone on it (playing a song already) and nothing happened.. just a buzz from the speaker.. I thought great.. a dud.. I then actually read the instructions and turned around the phone.. and low and behold! it worked!!
It wasn't without problems though.. the instructions stated to put the phone in between the markings on the top of the speaker.. what it doesn't tell you that to rid yourself of the annoying buzzing noise you will need to move the phone slowly to the line on the opposite end, until the buzzing stops. After this very easy resolve, the music was clear and nicely loud.
The speaker itself has an on/off button, and that is it! Everything else is controlled by your phone - skipping songs and volume etc. On the back of the speaker there is a mini USB socket, to charge via USB; although the speaker doesn't come with the wire..which is a little odd...there's also an audio in for mp3 players etc; again no wire for this..
The only other item to note is that you can charge this via USB, or dun dun DAAA!! BATTERIES!! The old art of needing the change batteries is back! Which is a GOOD thing in my eyes! It's always a pain when out and using your USB powered device and all of a sudden it dies.. and NO options to charge in sight! A quick trip to the shops or even just a few batteries in your pocket and you're off again!
The Verdict
A nice compact speaker which is very portable with great sound, and MEGA easy to use!
