Paramount Pictures Film Review: The Reef 2: High Tide in 3D

The Film!

This is sequel to "The Reef" which saw the little orange Guppy named 'Pi', taking on 'Troy' the Shark by using 'The Force' (well.. not the force.. The Reef calls it the 'Power of the Sea') and a little help from his friends.

Not to give it all away, Troy the Shark is back and being a bully as usual (these villains just never learn!); he's back to get his revenge on Pi and the fish folk of the Reef.

Pi is still with Cordelia, and they now have a Son called Junior. All Junior wants is to help. Helping others is the lesson of this film, as is; "Everyone is good at something".

There are several funny and heartwarming bits and all in all myself and my Son were well entertained. having watched 'Finding Nemo' I initially thought this film would have no chance and that fish have been done. However, the story and characters are completely different and it's very well put-together. The storyline and the additional of the 'Power of the Sea' gives a very different veiwing experience.

I loved this film in 3D, given that it's a fish film there is so much depth and the 3D just makes it a pleasure to watch. You normally loose the colours because of the glasses, however this is so bright, it looks great.

**Spoiler alert**
In 3d the Sea Dragon looks fantastic!

What the Boy thought

My son loved this film. the cinema we watched this at only held 100 and lots of people brought their kids, so alot of us had to sit on the stairs. My Son sat on my knee for the entire performance. I may have mentioned it in my other posts but he is a righ figit with 'Ants in his Pants'! but throughout this film he hardly moved; captivated by the story. I'm pretty sure he liked the 3D aspect too as he kept having to check without them if the fish were in the cinema with us!

**spoiler alert** He especially liked the bit where Aunt Pearl dressed up as a poisonous Lion Fish. She was being told she was the star of the show, then her 'Hat' on her head (which is actually a Starfish) commented that he thought he was the Star! He loved it! there were also many other giggles throughout the film.

I personally liked how deep and meaningful the 'Kung fu' master Turtle was! Very odd to think the actor is the comedic Rob Schneider!!

The Verdict?

A very good film which will keep your child captivated throughout, great colours, fantastic animation. Great with 3D; the depth really matters!

This film is out in UK cinema's on 25th October, I urge you to take your little one whether they've seen the first film or not!
