BANANAGRAMS! The Fantastic, albeit HEAVY Stocking fillers!!

What are they?!

This review is of 3 of the games from Bananagrams!;

Fruitominoes (age 5+, but Son has no trouble he's 4) -

These are a brilliant twist on the old classic of Dominoes, nice and simple; they have fruit on the pieces instead of dots. The colours are vibrant and each piece is nice and smooth, and HEAVY. I was really surprised just how heavy these were, on the shelves they look plasticy, but as they are heavy and so well crafted they really do feel like your money's worth! I think I quite annoyed the wife regarding how much I liked the feel of the Fruitominoes!

They come in a very handy pouch, easy for travelling and could easily fit into a jacket pocket for out and about!

At first my son and I were a little confused as there were no dots to count and the fruit caught us off guard, however we soon got stuck in; my son loved shouting "Fruitominoes" as soon as he won! and that was alot!

Pairs in Pears (Age 3+) -

These are great, you get 4 sets of different patterned A-Z tiles, again nice and weighty so you know your money was invested well! This has a great handbook and brilliant idea's on how to use the tiles, from matching words, to creating words that rhyme, also just general spelling tuition.

Unfortunately I don't have a massive imagination so I had to refer to the book a few times. However once we played this a few times we were spelling like mad!

Appletters (Age 5+) -

This is a brilliant take on crosswords, where you have to actually create the crossword.. sort of, you can only use letters on either end of the "word worm". Great for getting the kids to create words using a group of letters, not dis-similar to Scrabble too. My Son found this a little difficult as his vocab isn't massive, but was creating small words like "hot", "hop" etc.

He thought it was hilarious when I kept calling him a "Rotten Apple" for spelling something wrong or creating new words for the dictionary!

Again these were accompanied by a manual to give a few different game idea's which were all very fun to play! Again the build of the pieces were nice and heavy, they actually felt a little like the little tiles you get in bathrooms!

The Verdict:

On the whole all of the above games were REALLY fun to play and will definitely be coming on holidays and travelling with us! The weight and feel of each of the game pieces confirmed for me they are value for money!
