NEW LEGO Juniors - Batman's Cave! Review!

What is it?

It's LEGO! BUT! It's not Duplo for babies.. no.. and not millions of pieces for pre-teens, it's aimed at the inbetweens who sometimes get forgotten! For the 4-7 year olds that can't deal with the masses of instructions and pieces but who still want the challenge of a build.

I never really thought of getting LEGO for my 5 year old as I was put off by the tiny pieces which I thought would just get lost after the few minutes of opening a pack.. This set however bridges the gap between Duplo and standard sets, and has less pieces.

As you will see from the pictures below, there are still a fair few pieces, but not the tiny pieces you get with the usual sets.Note the Batcaves' side panel, which would usually be built brick by brick, but is instead one piece. The car chassis is also one piece too, which lessons the pieces and stops the fiddly bits getting lost.

I think having this junior line is a stroke of genius for LEGO and I can't wait for more sets to come out!

What the boy thought?

As always the instructions are pretty clear and easy to follow, after showing my son the concept of seeing the list of needed bricks, then following the pictures to build, he was getting of really well. Not one to follow instructions usually I was amazed at how quick he was building this set. He was loving it too, singing along to himself and the occasional "Na na na na na na na na BATMAAAAAN!!"

My son had a fantastic time building this set, it took him around an hour and a half to complete and then he continued to play with it for another few hours! Daddy got a little excited and also felt a little left out so went to the shops to buy an Iron man set below!!

The Final Verdict!

A brilliant, simple to build set, with great easy to follow instructions. Just right for the age range, so much fun to build. Go and get these now! There's also other versions available including Police and construction sets, not forgetting Spider-man! There's even a princess set directly aimed at the girls!
