Sushi GO! - Card Game Review!

2-5 players - Age 8+ - Playing time 15 minutes

What is it?

This is a pick and pass card game where you need to have the most points at the end of the game by keeping the highest sushi pieces and getting as many combo points as you can!

What I thought

This is a great, quick, little game where players start with a hand of cards. Each player keeps one card to themselves and passes on the remainder of the hand to the next player. Everyone does this simultaneously and keeps taking a card, passing the remainder of the hands until all cards are on the table.  This is done for 3 rounds.

You need to think strategy a little as you can only take one card from each hand going round the table, you can see other peoples cards on the table so you can keep an eye on what they are collecting. This is important too as some cards require certain combinations.

The cards each have different types of sushi on them and have different points for each type:

The Maki cards give points only to the players with the most and second most Maki (others get nothing).

The Nigiri, Prawn and Tofu cards can be paired with the Wasabi and will gain you extra points.

The Prawn Tempura requires at least 2 to acquire any points.

The Sashimi requires you to have at least 3 to gain points.

Steamed Dumplings (my favourite!), the more you keep the more points you get.

Chopsticks let you pick up 2 cards from one hand.

Pudding cards are kept until 3 rounds are up and you get points for getting the most. There is also a penalty for the person with the least Puddings!

The Verdict!

All of the above makes for a really fun, sometimes manic, and sometimes a little mean game, as you could potentially sabotage someone not getting the cards they want (but we try not to do that!).

Adult Rating: Really fun for adults, my partner really likes this one!

Family Rating: Very good for the little ones as the rules are simple and "learning wise" you could get them to count up their own points.

Sushi Go is available in most stores where board games are sold, BUT, I got mine from The Orcs Nest for £15.50 which includes postage! It's a great little shop in London, which is sadly closed at the moment, but when you get the chance, give them a visit (6 Earlham Street, London WC2H 9RY), they have a TON of games packed into two floors!
