Covid 19 - The Dark Times

Covid. The Dark Times. It seems we are nearing the end of this nightmare. So I just wanted to talk about a few of the things that have really helped me and my family throughout.

It sounds silly. But it's boardgames, not just the standard boardgames of days gone by, like Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and UNO. But also newer games, Card games, with several different mechanics worked in. Or Co-operative play games like Hogwarts Battle, where it's imperative you work as a team to beat the game.

All of the above have one thing in common. They are played together, with 2 or more people at a time. During Covid, we as a family have made a conscious effort to not JUST watch Netflix. Not JUST playing on our own in our room, and although reading, studying and working are all good for the mind, it doesn't meet the requirements of togetherness and family.

You see a lot of posts about depression, anxiety and sadness on Twitter, Facebook and the News, and one of the biggest things to counter this is talking, have a conversation with someone, talk it through.  Playing games together gives an opportunity to do this without any pressure, particularly for children or teenagers who might find talking more difficult. Mental Health is a very real issue today and we all need to understand that everyone struggles.

Playing games with loved ones will create a sense of togetherness, provide confidence, use the brain positively and literally bring joy. It's not all about the winning as they say, it's the taking part that matters.

So come on people, take part in a game, be part of your family and talk to one another.

I've reviewed lots of games on my blog, so why not use the labels on the side and find a game for you and your loved ones to play?! Do it!

Here's a few handy links to websites who sell the games to get you started with purchasing some games:
