Maul: Lockdown is a newish book published by Random House and written by Joe Schreiber.
Whats it about?
The story is based on the earlier adventures of the infamous Darth Maul who made his first appearance in Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.
This book is part of the Legends Universe and therefore not REAL in terms of what happens in the films, although a lot of what's in this book COULD be considered as canon.
The story basically follows Maul, already Darth Sidious' apprentice who's undercover in a deep space prison (imagine a Rubix cube the size of a prison, which moves and changes shape) in the Outer Rim territories - His mission is to locate a mysterious being and purchase a nuclear device, to be sold and ultimately used in Sidious' Master Plan.
The prison itself is pretty special, in that it can change shape. There's a gambling agenda attached to the prison, whereby the shape-shifting parts of the station pits inmates against each other and due to a special algorithm on the prison's computer, the "house" nearly always wins, it's pretty gruesome and Maul kills 3 inmates in the first 3 chapters!!
There's many a twist and turn, and so much scheming going on behind the scene's, from Darth Plagueis; Yes, Sidious' master (and Victim later on) makes appearances throughout the book too.
#GEEKYBIT Probably why this is Legends and not Canon; as being on Coruscant we hear nothing of Plagueis and in Episode 3, Sidious makes his death sound like it was MANY decades ago.

ANYWAY,
The Verdict
I can imagine this book will sit well with fans of Darth Maul as you see another side to him, (as you see THIS much of him will appeal to fans as he's only in Episode 1 for a short time!) you really get to understand why he became Darth Sidious' Apprentice and how deadly (and resourceful) he can be.
To me though, I'm a more light side fan and this book just didn't really do it for me. The ending (not to ruin it) just seemed a little non eventful. Along the way you get so much imagery from the writer and the scenes that are built are so gruesome, it just seemed like the ending was a little tame.
If you're a fan of the dark side, I say go for it! If you're a lightside fan.. then... well.. just wait for my "Heir to the Jedi" Review!!
Maul Lockdown is available in bookshops for RRP of £8.99. There are some great deals online and if you get it digital it's even cheaper!
