I am of course referring to Star Wars..
For quite a while now I've been reading more and more about female fans who are unhappy with the amount of Star Wars gear for girls, and also how the female characters are being either forgotten or totally removed from merchandise..
Now, for Star Wars Rebels two of the crew Hera (Voiced by the gorgeous Vanessa Marshall) and Sabine (Voiced by the equally gorgeous Tiya Sircar) are getting pretty heavy into the storylines, with Sabine creating diversions and jumping all over the place and Hera, being a bossy boots and 'trying' to keep the rest of the crew in line. Their characters are building nicely, but STILL we have no figures for them.. personally I just want to get the entire crew of 'The Ghost' for my boy so we can play missions etc.. He has no problems with the girl figures as it would complete his set.. Especially for 'completists' among 'fandom', who collect absolutely everything, I can imagine this is getting quite frustrating..
And then in particular, there's the ladies.. always we are parted as Boys and Girls in the aisles.. whatever happened to just Star Wars Fans, it seems we are being segregated as the toys are..Just looking at the above two pictures, and knowing a little about the characters, what girl wouldn't want to play with or roleplay one of these ladies? Hera's a bossy, loyal Twi'lek and Sabine's an artistic Mandalorian!
See this article at Toy News, where surveys show that girls are now wanting more heroes to play with, and therefore; in this case Mattel created 'Barbie Princess Power!' I personally think it's a terrible toy.. but that's for his post to argue..
Surely, surveys like the one in the article above, just proves how much girls want and need 'Super' role models and how toy companies IMO are really missing a trick when trying to incorporate girls into their demographic.
COME'ON DISNEY, GIVE US STAR WARS FANS THE GIRLY TOYS TOO!!!
Since starting to write this post, I have since found out there is a Wave 2 of Star Wars Rebels figures coming to stores, so there are figures for the above ladies waiting to be sold in the US. There has been apparent problems in the ports, making it difficult to get the figures to the stores. Across the pond though here in the UK, it seems even Disney Stores aren't holding much hope for the new line of figures (unsure as to when they're coming in), and in some cases a few employees don't have a big opinion of 'Rebels' at all!
How can this be?? I'm buying them! SOMEONE else must be right?? I just really hope the last episode of the series has done well and exploded the 'Rebels' brand into homes! I'm obviously gonna do my best here too to get it out there!!
I'll obviously do a review of the new figures as soon as I can get my claw's on them!
