Star Wars Book Review! DARK DICIPLE!! OUT TODAY!!!

What is it?

Dark Disciple is a new book published by Random House. Written by Christie Golden. Jacket Art by Matt Taylor.

Personally I've been waiting for this one for AGES!! It's a new CANON book which centers around a Sith Apprentice from the Clone Wars Era (and TV series) and also a character born of the Comics! (and also Clone Wars TV series!)

On any other day Jedi and Sith are mortal enemies and their morals go against everything they believe in. However, in this troubling time of war and countless deaths of innocents the Jedi council have no other option than to get rid of the evil Count Dooku FOREVER! They call upon the powers of his dark apprentice, (now turned bounty hunter..) Asajj Ventress! Teamed with (I like to think of him as a Grey Jedi) Jedia Master Quinlan Vos!

What I thought of it

Just reading the first few chapters it gave me chills to be back in the Clone Wars era, hearing the old masters discussing matters of the war. AWESOME!

As I read on, the relationship between "Vostress" just got a bit weird.. Maybe I need to go back and have a look at The Clone Wars, but I don't remember ANY kind of compassion from Ventress at all, so reading this book has given alot to think about her character..

The other characters in the book, with the exception of Ventress are all very well written. Quinlan Vos was always an awesome character for me, since first reading him in the comics, and then again in The Clone Wars TV series. He's quite dark and mysterious and as I said above he's kind of a grey Jedi. Vos obviously loves it at the Jedi temple but he does have a dark side, and that really comes out in 'Dark Disciple'.

Count Dooku is also a really great portrayal and really mirrors the films and the TV series. When I read conversations including Dooku you can really hear his voice and that husky menace. We lost Christopher Lee last month and this is really a great homage to his memory.

I'm gutted this was never made into episodes for the Clone Wars series as they definitely would have been intriguing! As I said though it would be interesting to see the lovey dovey part of it.

There are a few gut wrenching moments too (SPOILER ALERT)

Vos succumbs to the dark side and it's an extremely emotional scene, very intense!

As a writer interested in writing stories aswell as blogging I was astounded by the imagery used, the scenes are described so well, that you can really 'see' it all happening.

The Verdict

An awesome story, awesomely written, just not sure if fans can believe Ventress's character. Nevertheless it's a simply fantastic story and brilliant to see these characters in action once again, hopefully Disney will have a change of heart and possibly bring this book out as a feature length film??! PLEASE!!!?!?!?!

It's out TODAY on hardback, priced at RRP £19.99!! You can order it from this link! Please go get it as this has potential to be sold out!!
