Instead of a bog standard review of the trailer I wanted to post more about my feelings and whats led up to this trailer to explain my reaction.
So, did you cry?? If you didn't? Fine! If you did? Still fine!
Okay, Star Wars for me holds a special place in my heart and to confirm, I DID well up and a tear did fall.. However, it wasn't necessarily because the trailer itself was emotional.. It was a little scary, exciting, confusing and AMAZING!!
As I said though, even though it was all the above, this is not (I think) the reasons I cried.
I cried because of the journey. My journey.
All the years of my youth, playing with the toys, being excited and playing with toy lightsabers, with friends in my parents garden hacking plants apart using a stick while making "vvvmmm vmmmm" sounds! I re-kindle some of this as now my son has come of age, he is getting into the films, and he has LOTS of sabers through me! :) So now WE play in my garden..
The first time I ever saw Return Of The Jedi, one of the many Christmas' that the trilogy was re-run, my first interaction with the Star Wars franchise. Having that anticipation for the scenes in the film and going nuts when seeing and hearing a lightsaber for the first time after Luke does a somersault back onto one of Jabba's Skiffs!
Ever since the news came that there was a new movie (and then MOVIES!) coming, my love of the Star Wars universe was reignited! With GUSTO! There's so much more Toys and collectibles than there EVER was when I was a kid, the shops were quite sparse, even when the prequels came, and of course now a maHUsive company like Disney is involved, it's all quite easy to get your hands on!
On top of all the above, when I've been down or stressed about something, I've switched on a podcast or two and they've perked me up again. They're all great and I urge you to check them out! SEE my previous post about the podcasts!
THE TRAILER,
My alarm went off on the 19th October at 3am, using my iPhone, I had a notification of a Periscope which just went live! I immediately started the feed from Jason Ward (@makingstarwars), he was at a cinema I think, waiting for the trailer to start with his family, it was great seeing and hearing other people from across the globe, feeling the same anticipation I had.
My heart was pounding!
At the same time I was frantically searching twitter for word of the trailer Then someone else watching the periscope feed posted that the trailer had gone live on youtube and, apologies to Jason, I switched to my iPad and to see it in a better resolution!
SO,
When sitting in the darkness of my conservatory on the warm morning that this trailer went live, all the above was playing on my mind and ultimately why I welled..
HERE is the trailer!
A fantastic trailer which now gives us more insight into the story and to the characters within, but not really anything significant at this point, so not really any spoilers.. still no sign of Luke, so I'm still worried about where he is..
I truly believe this film will be a hit with fans and have no doubt I will be watching through glazed over eyes on the 17th December!
DO enjoy and tweet me what you think!
