MOTHERS DAY REVIEW! Amazon's Kindle! A Mummy's best friend?

What is it?

Essentially it's an essential piece of kit, it's an e-reader of it's own league, and it's up there!

The version I'm reviewing here is the 6" touch-screen. There's a few buttons on this Kindle but no-where near as many as the older Kindle which had a keyboard. Having the square rocker button is great and very intuitive. I didn't even need help using the menu's as it was so straightforward.

Well, as soon as your purchase is done, and you've registered the Kindle as your own, you get an email which is just jam packed with goodies. How to start, organise and use the Kindle as well as links to accessories (cases etc) and the books themselves.

The set up to getting your library is very simple, just a few clicks and a few minutes later with the help of built in Wi-Fi you're reading! Which brings me to the next thing..SPACE..there's tons of it, enough for around 1,400 books!!

You can buy from a mahusive selection of books via Amazon for around £3.99 each as a standard price, but these really do range from 1p upwards. There's also quite a few completely free books! I also like that you can send yourself a sample of the book; so you can try before you buy.

The device is extremely lightweight, I'd say even less than a standard paperback! Also quite comfortable in the hand, the buttons on both sides (doesn't matter if your a leftie or a rightie) to turn the pages are brilliant.

The screen is just mind boggling, it's like paper but NOT paper so there's no glare from the sun (so perfect for those holidays of light reading around the pool!). You also have the ability to change the size of the words on the screen, so if you're a little blind like me you can really zoom in on the words.

It's not just books you can read on the Kindle either, I found you can also read comics quite nicely too! See below, the Kindle allows you to zoom into each caption of the comic too, so you don't need to read it all in tiny writing on the one page..so something for the kids there too.. worth thinking about eh?!

What Mummy Thought?

Now, I've personally been using the Kindle App on my smartphone for years and it's worked great for me, however it is a little like reading a very long text message and this can be quite tiring on the eyes..so reading now on the 6" Kindle is a mega treat and has actually got me reading a lot more than I used to!

Onto what the title of this section actually says: Mummy just LOVES her Kindle! A big fan of reading anyway, it's just so easy to pick up and instead of looking around the house for that particular book, just a few clicks and she's reading the one she wanted!

Will be fantastic for holidays too as Mummy likes to sit round the pool with a good book, and with no glare now she can sit tight with about 1,400 of them! Not ALL at once obviously..

The Final Verdict

To have something physical in the hand instead of just your mobile is great, also lightweight and easy to read. I wasn't a massive reader until I got this Kindle, now I find it hard to put it away!

The only thing I can say which is a little disconcerting is; when you turn the page, it does a flashy thing when changing the words, you need to see it to understand me but, not a big thing but just a little weird the first few times.

Thank goodness for my commuting hours! And thank Amazon for the Kindle! Coloured e-ink now please? hehe..

For more information and to also purchase yourself a Kindle, feel free to use my Amazon search box at the side of the post! The range starts from £59, see below for a quick compare!
