ION - Card Game Review!

2-10 Players - Ages 7+ - Playing Time 3-30 Minutes

What is it?

As a player of lots of games old and new, this mostly reminds me of a mash up between dominoes and UNO.

The idea of the game is simple. Be the first player to get rid of all your cards. BUT, some of the cards have effects, like making the opponent pick up a number of cards (sound familiar?) decided by a dice. Other action cards allow you to challenge your opponent to a dice duel, skip players turns and sometimes pass on card effects so you don't get stung with picking up cards!

What I Thought?

In this card game you have to place the cards each turn, much like UNO by matching either side of the domino on the card, and at the same time you need to be aware of the effects which work when you place the card.

As mentioned above, there is also a dice which you roll to confirm how many cards your enemy has to pick up, or to help settle a challenge.

Scores are then counted when someone gets rid of all their cards, basically the other players count the dots on their remaining cards and the winner is the one with the lowest points, after 3 rounds.

And really, that's about it. The rules are super easy to understand too which gets you playing really quickly.

The Verdict!

I currently play it with my 7 year old, so it's really easy to pick up. I haven't played it with more people but I can imagine it could be really fun in a group, as you can play with up to 10 players.

It's a really fun card game but very similar to UNO, the only difference being the addition of the dice. It's quite a good intro into the more detailed and action heavy card games (of which I will review here in the near future!)

ION is available from Amazon for £8.97!

Adult Rating: Pretty quick for the adults, so don't expect to get too engrossed, there's not quite enough depth to it.

Family Rating: It's good for the young ones, as the games are really short and there's the added bonus of a little bit of maths after every round to count up your cards for scoring!
