Star Wars Book Review! Heir To The Jedi! OUT YESTERDAY!!

Star Wars CANNON - Heir To The Jedi

Heir To The Jedi is a new book published by Random House. Written by Kevin Hearne. Jacket Art by Larry Rostant

Whats it about?

This book is CANON! Which means it actually happened! In the eyes of the Movies anyway..

It centres around Luke Skywalker speaking from the first person and is based timewise, just after the Battle of Yavin (Star Wars; A New Hope (Episode 4)).

What I thought?

My first thoughts of reading just the first few pages of this book, was that MORE books should be written in the first person. It  really is an interesting way to read, from a specific perspective, rather than reading from the outside, you're there with the main character. All the feelings and thought of Luke Skywalker can totally be believed in this book to be from the Luke from the movies.

The story see's Luke and co rescuing and reuniting a slicer with her family, there's some skepticism from Luke as to where her loyalties lie. Another arc in the story is the romance between him and a new character, indeed as originally thought the Force plays a big part in this book and is always in Lukes mind (as it should be!).

Also, as it's from the first person, we really get to look into Lukes personality more, about the young teen he was on Tatooine and how much he regrets taking his old life for granted. We also see how tactically smart Luke is, which was a little odd as; in the films he does what he's told most of the time and then escapes to Dagobah or lets himself be captured..he's definitely matured as a character since A New Hope and it shows in this book.

My only gripe is that there was quite a bit of flying and I missed Luke using his lightsaber! Which brings me to my last point, is the art on the cover! It's AWESOME!

The Verdict!

A really good and fun read with lots of insight into the Hero of Star Wars! I'm really looking forward to Lukes future (inbetween films) and hope we see more books in the first person!
