Kuli Kali - Theatre Production at The Stratford Circus!

Now for something different, but strangely familiar!

On Tuesday night I went to see the WORLD premiere of the FIRST dramatic musical theatre production of "Kuli-Kali - The Revenge Of The Samurai"

Firstly, being Japanese, I wasn't sure of what to expect.. I was kinda expecting something similar to the Shaolin Monks production.. Which is basically a circus act with Monks which explains about the Monks way of life and the fighting forms..

Kuli-Kali was based on a story about 3 Ninjas who defeated a demon.. And the demon was coming alive again and the now reincarnated Ninjas were needed once again.. With the help of a Samurai they defeat the demon once more!

ZIPAN!! Is the place where this story begins and funnily enough being a Star Wars blog I was elated when the narrator started

"A long time ago, in a land far far away".. Sound familiar!!? Hehe.. Awesome..

The show started with a narration in English, however it was followed by talking from the actors in Japanese.. There were also subtitles which were provided along the top of the stage so you can follow. REALLY IMPRESSED with the acting, and definitely akin to some of the movies which have come out, I'm thinking of the Chinese ones to be honest, but the same sort of thing.

In true Japanese manga style there was also some overacting and over dramatisation, but this just added to the authenticity of a Japanese production.

Lots of GREAT swordplay and great sound effects which reminded me alot of the old Streetfighter games on my Playstation! The actors did so well following the choreography!

Now, there was only one thing that kinda bugged me throughout the show...my Wife aptly named him MR X FACTOR!

It was not Simon Cowell, no no.. Remember Rylan on the xfactor? Not that I have anything against him, it wasn't him either though! This guy was also pretty animated with his faces, and the dancing, oh dear.. I know some of the moves and the emotion was needed but sometimes it took away from the emotion of the acting.. It may have been easier to bare if like the female singer he just walked on, like a beautiful ghost, sang and walked off.. Sorry dude.. Amazing voice and very entertaining but not completely needed.

Apart from the above I LOVED this! Great story and really humbling at times, and the voicing and acting was very sincere.

PLEASE, go and book your seats now for the Stratford Circus! They're there until 28th November then moving on!
